2025 BMW X5 Review: Prices, Specs, and Photos

The 2025 BMW X5 is a standout midsize luxury SUV that exudes a sporty personality. When compared to its competitors like the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, the Audi Q7, and the Volvo XC90, the X5 holds its own with a commendable rating of 6.8 out of 10 on the TCC scale. While its design may be showing its age, the X5 more than makes up for it with its exceptional driving performance, user-friendly technology, and undeniable value for its premium price tag.

Celebrating its silver anniversary, the 2025 X5 comes equipped with a 25th Anniversary package that includes light-duty off-road gear such as all-terrain tires. The lineup has undergone minor tweaks for the 2025 model year following a comprehensive revamp in 2024. Despite its traditional two-box profile and muscular haunches, the X5 manages to avoid the brand’s controversial massive grille treatment, ensuring its continued popularity as one of BMW’s best-selling models.

Inside, the X5 boasts a modern and elegant cabin design with minimal buttons and knobs, emphasizing simple style and luxury. The spacious interior provides ample room for passengers and cargo, with a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch touchscreen display adding a touch of sophistication. With a range of interior color options available, buyers can customize their X5 to suit their preferences.

Most X5 models come equipped with a mild-hybrid turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine that delivers 375 horsepower in sDrive40i and xDrive40i configurations. For those seeking more power, the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid variant offers a quicker acceleration time and the option for emissions-free commuting in electric mode. The top-of-the-line M60i model features a 523-hp twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine for exhilarating performance.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the X5 achieves up to 25 mpg combined for the inline-6 models, with the plug-in hybrid offering a 38-mile all-electric range on a full charge. V-8 models are understandably less fuel-efficient. Despite its premium price, the X5 falls short in standard safety features, though an optional adaptive cruise control system with hands-off driving capability is available. The X5’s safety ratings are marred by a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA.

Pricing for the 2025 BMW X5 starts at $66,875 including destination charge, with all-wheel drive costing an additional $2,300. Standard features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.9-inch touchscreen display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, synthetic leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Manufactured in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the 2025 BMW X5 continues to impress with its blend of luxury, performance, and style, making it a top contender in the competitive midsize luxury SUV segment.
