3000 miles in Cupra's 328bhp super wagon

After spending time with the Cupra Leon estate, it’s time to reflect on the experience and bid farewell to this powerful yet understated hot wagon. The Cupra brand has evolved from Seat’s sporting subdivision to a lifestyle brand, but at its core, it still produces impressive cars like the Leon.

The top-rung Leon estate is essentially a Volkswagen Golf R with a touch of Catalonian charisma. With a 328bhp turbocharged engine, all-wheel drive, and a spacious boot, it offers a compelling mix of performance and practicality. The recent facelift has brought updates to the exterior, interior, and drivetrain, making it even more appealing.

On the road, the Leon impresses with its speed, agility, and handling. The torque-splitting rear differential enhances cornering ability, while the responsive steering adds to the overall driving experience. The car’s performance is exhilarating, with a 0-62mph time of just 4.8 seconds, making it a true thrill to drive.

However, the firm suspension can be a downside, especially on rough roads where it can feel jarring. The 19-inch wheels contribute to the stiffness, and a smoother ride could be achieved with smaller rims. Additionally, the exhaust can be noisy on cold starts, which might not be to everyone’s liking.

Despite these minor drawbacks, the Cupra Leon shines as a versatile and engaging sports car. It blends dynamic driving with everyday usability, making it suitable for both spirited drives and daily commutes. The infotainment system is user-friendly, and the overall build quality is commendable.

In conclusion, the Cupra Leon estate offers a unique blend of performance, practicality, and charisma. It’s a car that can thrill on the open road and still handle daily tasks with ease. While it may not be perfect, its overall package makes it a compelling choice in the hot wagon segment. Farewell, Cupra Leon – you will be missed.
