Autoliv Breaks Ground on State-of-the-Art R&D Center in Wuhan

Autoliv, a leading global provider of automotive safety systems, has recently announced the groundbreaking of its new Research and Development (R&D) center in Wuhan. This new facility is set to become operational in the third quarter of 2026, marking a significant milestone for the company’s commitment to innovation and safety in the automotive industry.

The new R&D center in Wuhan will cover a total area of 21,819 square meters and will be equipped with advanced testing equipment and a fully digital development platform. The facility will include R&D offices, cutting-edge laboratories, efficient storage systems, and prototype workshops. These key functional areas will support product design, virtual simulation, system integration, and testing for a wide range of automotive safety systems.

Autoliv sees the Wuhan R&D center as a strategic asset in its global R&D strategy, aimed at accelerating innovation in vehicle occupant protection technologies. By leveraging the technical capabilities of this new center, Autoliv aims to deliver safer and more reliable mobility solutions to its global customer base. The facility is expected to play a crucial role in advancing intelligent, connected, and electrified vehicle platforms.

The decision to establish the R&D center in Wuhan follows a partnership agreement between Autoliv and the Wuhan Dongxihu District government in March 2025. This initiative represents a significant enhancement of Autoliv’s existing presence in the city and underscores the company’s commitment to driving innovation in China’s automotive industry.

Mr. Sun Yi, President of Autoliv China, highlighted Wuhan’s strengths in talent, infrastructure, and industrial ecosystem as key factors in selecting the city as the location for the new R&D center. He emphasized that Autoliv’s expertise in manufacturing and research would contribute to the development of the regional automotive supply chain and support the transformation of China’s automotive industry.
