BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has introduced a new addition to its Sealion family with the upcoming Sealion 06 SUV. The Sealion family already consists of popular models like the Sealion 07 EV, Sealion 05 DM-i, and Sealion 05 EV, which collectively sold 18,125 units in March, marking a 41.12 percent increase from the previous month.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China recently released a catalog featuring upcoming models open for public feedback, with the Sealion 06 making its debut in this list. This marks the final regulatory step before the SUV can be officially sold in the Chinese market.

The Sealion 06 comes in six different versions, with three being battery electric vehicle (BEV) models and the other three being plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models. The production bases for these models are located in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, and Changzhou, Jiangsu province for the BEV versions, while the PHEV models are produced in Xi’an.

Measuring at 4,810 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, the Sealion 06 is slightly larger than its predecessor, the Sealion 05 EV. It boasts a wheelbase of 2,820 mm and weighs between 1,890 kg and 2,190 kg. The BEV versions support a top speed of 185 kilometers per hour, while the PHEV version achieves a slightly lower top speed of 180 kilometers per hour.

The Sealion 06 offers both single-motor and dual-motor options for the BEV versions. The single-motor version comes with peak motor power options of 170 kW and 180 kW, while the dual-motor version features front and rear motors with maximum powers of 110 kW and 180 kW, respectively. On the other hand, the PHEV versions are equipped with a 1,498 ml engine delivering a maximum power of 74 kW, along with a single motor boasting a peak power of 160 kW.

The Sealion 06 is expected to enhance BYD’s Sealion family, which already includes the innovative Sealion 07 EV, the technologically advanced Sealion 05 DM-i, and the recently launched all-electric Sealion 05 EV. With the Sealion family’s continuous expansion and success in the market, BYD is solidifying its position as a leading player in the electric vehicle industry.
