Chevy Silverado EV Work Truck claims world record in range

General Motors has set a new world record in electric vehicle (EV) range with the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck. The engineering team at GM recently conducted a real-world test with a minimally modified version of the Silverado EV, traveling an impressive 1,059.2 miles on a single charge.

The Chevy Silverado EV has quickly become a flagship model in General Motors’ electric vehicle lineup since its debut in 2022. The 2026 version of the Silverado EV boasts an EPA-estimated range of 493 miles, making it a standout in the all-electric pickup truck market.

For the world record attempt, GM engineers used the Max Pack Work Truck trim of the 2026 Silverado EV. While the vehicle was not heavily modified, some optimizations were made to enhance efficiency. These included lowering the windshield wiper blade position to reduce drag, inflating tires to their maximum pressure for lower rolling resistance, removing the spare tire to reduce weight, optimizing wheel alignment, adding a tonneau cover for smoother airflow, and turning off the climate control during the test.

During the test, a team of 40 engineers drove the Silverado EV Work Truck on public roads near GM’s Michigan proving ground for seven days. The engineers employed smart driving techniques and maintained a speed of 20-25 mph throughout the test to maximize range. The result was an impressive 1,059.2-mile journey on a single charge, setting a new world record for EV range.

While GM’s achievement is commendable, it’s important to note that Guinness documented and confirmed Lucid’s previous EV range world record. The Lucid Air Grand Touring held the record with 749 miles on a single charge. Additionally, the Lucid Air Pure remains more efficient, achieving 5 miles per kilowatt-hour compared to the Silverado EV’s 4.9 miles per kilowatt-hour.

Despite this, GM’s accomplishment is a significant milestone in the EV industry and deserves recognition. The Silverado EV Work Truck has showcased the potential for electric vehicles to achieve impressive ranges without compromising performance. Congratulations to GM and the team of engineers at Chevrolet for their world record-setting achievement.
