Digital Technology “Made in Italy” is ART

Artificial intelligence is a hot topic at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but it’s not the only buzzword stealing the spotlight. The event, scheduled from January 7 to 10, will also delve into discussions surrounding the digitalization of services, a crucial topic for the automotive industry. Among the standout companies in this field is ART, an Italian firm making its debut at CES this year.

Based in Umbria, ART has been at the forefront of developing digital tools and electronic platforms for luxury and sports cars for several years. However, their expertise extends beyond automotive applications. At CES, ART will showcase devices tailored for two-wheeled vehicles and digital tools for creating simulated environments inspired by the gaming industry. The highlight of their showcase is the new Digital Cockpit demonstrator, which integrates the latest innovations and can be experienced by registering for a personalized demonstration on their website.

The innovation behind ART’s Digital Cockpit lies in its new modular electronic architecture, which aims to simplify the design and development of electronic systems for future cars. Unlike traditional setups where digital instrument clusters and infotainment systems operate independently, ART’s unified system is managed by a single Electronic Control Unit (ECU). This ECU controls entertainment, driver interfaces, and more, enabling seamless communication between different onboard systems and supporting Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication for connectivity with other vehicles and smart infrastructures.

The high-tech displays in ART’s Digital Cockpit feature high-visibility TFT screens with Black Diamond technology for optimal contrast and improved readability. This modular design reduces components, weight, and complexity, ultimately speeding up the time-to-market for new vehicles. The system ensures superior performance through smooth information exchange and complete physical separation of hardware and software, enhancing flexibility with compatibility for various interfaces and connectivity platforms like CAN, BroadR, MOST, USB, LIN, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.

Moreover, the new e-Cockpit can be updated via over-the-air (OTA) updates and supports additional screens for passengers, head-up displays for the driver, and customizable features tailored to manufacturers’ specifications. The system also incorporates Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for active safety, including driver monitoring systems and parking assistants. ART has developed integrated solutions for parking assistance, offering different versions ranging from basic rear cameras to advanced 3D Surround systems with multiple perimeter cameras for a comprehensive view of the vehicle’s surroundings.

For passenger entertainment, ART has introduced the Occupant Monitoring System (OMS), which detects passenger presence and interprets gestures, movements, and postures to create a personalized experience through the onboard systems. The digital platform also utilizes the 3D HMI ecosystem, rapid prototyping, Software Development Kit, and V-Cockpit Tool to create an immersive experience with customizable graphical interfaces and advanced simulations using virtual reality headsets.

Overall, ART’s new software solutions and innovative digital platform showcase the future of automotive technology, promising enhanced functionality, safety, and entertainment for drivers and passengers alike. With a focus on modularity, flexibility, and seamless integration, ART is setting a new standard for digital cockpits in the automotive industry.
