Former Nio CFO joins US-sanctioned camera maker Hikvision

Former Nio CFO Steven Feng has recently made a significant career move by joining the US-sanctioned surveillance camera maker Hikvision, following his departure from the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer in early July. This transition marks a new chapter in Feng’s professional journey, as he takes on the role of senior deputy general manager and secretary of the board of directors at Hikvision for the duration of the company’s sixth board term.

With a diverse background in finance and analysis, Feng brings a wealth of experience to his new position at Hikvision. Prior to his tenure at Nio, he held various roles at prominent organizations such as Germany’s ZF Group, Everbright Securities, and China International Capital Corporation (CICC). His strategic insights and financial expertise played a pivotal role in Nio’s turnaround, as he joined the company during a challenging period that saw it on the brink of bankruptcy.

Feng’s contributions to Nio were instrumental in securing a RMB 7 billion investment from investors in Anhui province, which enabled the company to overcome its financial hurdles and achieve significant growth in vehicle deliveries throughout 2020. This success story propelled Nio’s stock price to new heights, reflecting the impact of Feng’s leadership during his time as CFO.

On the other hand, Hikvision is a Chinese company that has faced scrutiny from the US government, leading to its inclusion on the list of export-controlled entities in 2019. Despite these challenges, Hikvision remains a key player in the surveillance camera market, with recent reports suggesting organizational restructuring and potential layoffs as part of its business strategy.

While some media outlets have raised concerns about Hikvision’s restructuring efforts, the company has clarified that these adjustments are necessary for its long-term growth and sustainability. As Feng embarks on this new chapter at Hikvision, his expertise and leadership will undoubtedly contribute to the company’s continued success in the competitive technology landscape.

Overall, Feng’s transition from Nio to Hikvision underscores the dynamic nature of the corporate world and the opportunities for professionals to make impactful contributions across different industries. As he takes on this new role, Feng’s experience and strategic vision will undoubtedly shape the future trajectory of Hikvision and solidify its position in the global market.
