HERE Technologies, a leading location data and technology platform, has announced a strategic partnership with Nio’s latest electric vehicle (EV) brand, firefly. The collaboration aims to enhance the efficiency, safety, and overall driving experience of firefly’s intelligent EVs and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

One of the key aspects of this partnership is the integration of high-quality map data and location services from HERE Technologies into firefly’s vehicles. This will enable firefly to incorporate speed limit information to support the Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) requirement across the European Union (EU), ensuring compliance with international safety and regulatory standards.

Additionally, firefly will benefit from a range of HERE location services through HERE’s collaboration with Telenav. These services include digital cockpit and navigation experiences tailored for EVs, along with real-time traffic insights to enhance the driving experience.

Chris Chen, Nio Global Business Development vice president, expressed confidence in the partnership, stating, “HERE is a trusted partner, providing us with the high-quality, automotive-grade location technology required to meet international safety and regulatory standards.” Nio has demonstrated significant growth, delivering over 42,000 vehicles globally in the first quarter of the year, with firefly focusing on premium EV technology for urban mobility, smart connectivity, and safety.

Deon Newman, HERE Technologies Asia Pacific general manager and senior vice president, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting Chinese automakers like Nio in their global expansion efforts. He emphasized HERE’s dedication to providing AI-powered location intelligence solutions that set the global standard for automotive-grade live maps.

The introduction of firefly is expected to accelerate Nio’s growth by reaching new segments of EV consumers. This collaboration follows a similar partnership between Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) and HERE Technologies in January 2025 to integrate advanced location data and technology into SHM’s new EV brand, Afeela.

In conclusion, the partnership between HERE Technologies and Nio’s firefly brand underscores the importance of leveraging cutting-edge location data and technology to enhance the performance and safety of intelligent EVs. As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, collaborations like these will play a crucial role in driving innovation and delivering world-class driving experiences to consumers globally.
