Shangjie, the latest automotive brand created through a collaboration between Huawei and SAIC Motor, has made a remarkable entrance into the market with its debut model, the H5 SUV. The vehicle, priced between RMB 169,800 ($23,730) and RMB 209,800, has quickly become the most affordable model under Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business.

During the initial 18 hours of pre-sales, the Shangjie H5 managed to secure over 50,000 pre-orders, a significant milestone for the brand. The pre-sales phase began on August 25 and saw an overwhelming response from consumers, with over 25,000 pre-orders recorded within the first hour alone.

The H5 model is set to be officially launched on September 23 and will feature Huawei’s ADS 4 advanced driving assistance system, making it the most cost-effective vehicle equipped with this technology. Pre-orders during this phase are fully refundable, providing customers with flexibility.

Incentivizing pre-orders, Shangjie offers tiered discounts for exceeding certain order quantities. Customers can enjoy discounts of RMB 1,000, RMB 2,000, and RMB 3,000 for pre-orders surpassing 50,000, 100,000, and 150,000 units, respectively.

Shangjie is part of Huawei’s HIMA umbrella, which includes other automotive brands like Seres Group’s Aito, Chery’s Luxeed, JAC’s Maextro, and BAIC’s Stelato. The brand aims to achieve monthly sales of 20,000 units for the H5 and has revealed a procurement plan for 400,000 units annually to its supply chain, based on future model planning.

Looking ahead, Shangjie plans to introduce two new models next year, including a sedan and another SUV. The SUV is scheduled for launch in the first half of the year. To support its production needs, SAIC has established a dedicated factory for Shangjie in Shanghai’s Lingang area and has also taken over a portion of production lines at SAIC-GM’s Jinqiao plant in Shanghai.

The success of the Shangjie H5 underscores the strong demand for affordable electric vehicles in the market. With its competitive pricing and advanced features, the H5 is poised to make a significant impact in the automotive industry.
