Hyundai made waves in the US market once again, setting a new sales record in July with a 15% surge in sales. The star of the show was the IONIQ 5, which had its best sales month ever as Hyundai’s electric vehicle plans began to unfold.
In total, Hyundai sold 79,543 vehicles in the US last month, marking a significant milestone for the Korean automaker. This growth was largely driven by electrified vehicles, with EVs and hybrids accounting for a 50% increase in sales compared to July 2024. Electrified vehicles made up 32% of Hyundai’s retail sales in July, with popular models like the IONIQ 5 leading the charge.
The IONIQ 5 saw a remarkable 71% surge in sales in July, with 5,818 units sold. Since the beginning of the year, Hyundai has sold nearly 25,000 IONIQ 5 models in the US, solidifying its position as one of the top-selling EVs in the country. The IONIQ 5 boasts a long driving range, rapid charging capabilities, advanced technology, and a sleek design, making it a favorite among electric vehicle enthusiasts.
The 2025 model year brought upgrades to the IONIQ 5, including an extended range of up to 318 miles, an enhanced infotainment system, and a built-in NACS port for charging at Tesla Superchargers. Built at Hyundai’s EV plant in Georgia, the IONIQ 5 has been a hit since deliveries began in late May.
Joining the IONIQ 5 in the spotlight is the three-row IONIQ 9, also produced in Georgia. With 2,086 units sold in the US so far, including 1,073 in July, the IONIQ 9 is making a name for itself in the electric SUV market.
The IONIQ 6 also saw an uptick in sales, with 949 units sold in July, representing a 22% year-over-year increase. Despite facing billions in extra costs due to tariffs, Hyundai celebrated the new trade agreement between the US and South Korea as a significant win, even though a 15% tariff still applies.
