Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) has recently inaugurated a new research center in Delhi, India, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). This new facility, known as the Hyundai Center of Excellence (CoE) for future mobility technology, aims to focus on research and development tailored for the Indian market, specifically in the areas of electrification and battery systems.

The partnership between Hyundai and IIT Delhi will involve nine joint research projects that will form the basis of a long-term academic-industrial cooperation framework. These projects will cover a range of topics including battery cells, systems and testing, battery management systems (BMS), energy density enhancement, safety, durability, diagnostic technologies, new materials, system components, and battery design.

The steering committee of the Hyundai CoE will be led by Chang Hwan Kim, the managing director of Hyundai Motor India, and Bijaya Ketan Panigrahi, the dean of IIT Delhi. Heuiwon Yang, HMG’s head of R&D, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating that working with India’s brightest minds in battery innovation will help develop technologies tailored to the Indian market and contribute to the economy and society.

In addition to the CoE, HMG is expanding its Future Technology Research Program in India, which has been operational since 2021. This program allows university faculty members to propose their own research topics, which are then reviewed and selected by HMG. Previously limited to South Korean universities and professors, the program has now been extended to include foreign faculties, starting with professors at IITs, marking a significant step in globalizing HMG’s academic collaboration efforts.

Nominations are now open, providing an opportunity for companies to showcase their achievements, highlight advancements, and gain global recognition. Don’t miss the chance to be honored among the best in the industry – submit your nomination today!

Overall, the establishment of the Hyundai Center of Excellence in partnership with IIT Delhi marks a significant milestone in advancing research and development in the field of future mobility technology in India. By leveraging the expertise of academia and industry, Hyundai is poised to drive innovation and sustainability in the automotive sector, paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future.
