Hyundai has recently introduced the RN24, a cutting-edge concept car that serves as a glimpse into the future of high-performance electric vehicles from the brand. The RN24 is a stripped-down rolling lab that incorporates motorsport-inspired technology to showcase what Hyundai envisions for its upcoming EVs.
Built on the same E-GMP platform as the Ioniq 5 N, the RN24 is slightly shorter due to a reconfigured battery pack. Despite its compact size, the concept boasts a powerful 641bhp, 546lb ft dual-motor setup that is supported by a lightweight chassis inspired by WRC (World Rally Championship) vehicles. This design directive aimed to house the most potent EV powertrain in the most compact package possible.
Weighing in at 1880kg, the RN24 is 355kg lighter than the Ioniq 5 N, yet it matches its sibling’s impressive 3.4-second 0-62mph acceleration time. The top speed is electronically limited to 149mph, showcasing the concept’s performance capabilities. Hyundai describes the RN24 as more than just a test vehicle, but a platform for sparking discussions about the future of high-performance EVs.
The concept shares some of its bodywork with the upcoming Hyundai Inster, hinting at the potential for an Inster N variant in the future. Powering the RN24 is an 84kWh battery pack, similar to the one found in the Ioniq 5 N, offering a range of 278 miles. Hyundai has enhanced the battery and motor cooling systems in the concept to support its high-performance applications.
Equipped with a next-generation WRC-derived software system, a large rear wing, and faster steering, the RN24 prioritizes agility and control reminiscent of rally cars. A unique Rally Mode feature electronically replicates the technical four-wheel drive system used in Hyundai’s i20 N Rally1, optimizing torque distribution for optimal performance. This showcases Hyundai’s commitment to streamlining complex systems in EVs for more practical applications in future production vehicles.
