Hyundai Wia Corporation, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group, is making its foray into the automotive air conditioning segment for the first time. The company, known for manufacturing vehicle chassis modules, engines, transmission, and thermal management systems, as well as defense and aerospace equipment, recently announced its plans to supply heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for the upcoming Kia PV5 battery-powered light van.

The Kia PV5, set to launch later this year, is based on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform for Service (E-GMP.S). This platform is designed to optimize interior space usage and safety, with a Flexible Body System that supports various passenger and cargo transportation applications through 16 planned variants.

Hyundai Wia has completed the development of its HVAC system for the PV5 and has already begun mass production. The HVAC module is specifically designed for battery-powered vehicles, aiming to minimize parts and weight while reducing noise, vibration, and harshness. Extensive performance testing of the HVAC and thermal management systems has been conducted at the company’s thermal management test facility in Uiwang City, Gyeonggi Province.

The company has also conducted durability tests in diverse environments and road conditions in South Korea, Italy, Spain, and Sweden. Hyundai Wia has confirmed its plans to launch mass production of HVAC systems for internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid vehicles in 2027, initially focusing on supplying the successor to the current Hyundai Kona model.

In addition to its automotive ventures, Hyundai Wia is encouraging industry players to participate in the Just Auto Excellence Awards. These awards celebrate innovation, leadership, and impact in the automotive industry. By entering, companies can showcase their achievements, elevate their industry profile, and position themselves among top industry leaders driving advancements. Participating in the Excellence Awards offers businesses the opportunity to gain well-deserved recognition and stand out in the competitive automotive landscape.
