The AUDI E5 Sportback has been introduced as the inaugural model from a new sub-brand specifically tailored for the Chinese market, boasting a staggering 776bhp and an impressive range of 478 miles. This electric vehicle, designed and developed in China, is a collaboration between AUDI and SAIC, the owner of MG.
The E5 Sportback stays true to its original E Concept design, deviating from AUDI’s traditional design language. It notably ditches the iconic four-ring logo and adopts a more minimalist approach to its surfacing. Positioned similarly to the combustion-engine A5, the E5 is slightly longer and wider to cater to the Chinese market’s demand for spacious interiors.
Inside, the E5 features a striking 27-inch display screen that spans the entire width of the dashboard. The user-friendly software prioritizes critical functions and includes an app store accessible through facial recognition technology.
Offered with four different battery electric powertrains ranging from 295bhp to a whopping 776bhp, the E5 delivers impressive performance. The top-tier model can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds. With a 100kWh battery pack, the E5 achieves a remarkable range of 478 miles and can recharge for 230 miles in just 10 minutes.
In addition to its powerful performance, the E5 excels in autonomous driving capabilities. Equipped with advanced technology such as a roof-mounted lidar box, radars, sensors, and cameras, the car can navigate both motorways and urban environments with ease. AUDI claims that the E5 can anticipate and respond to various obstacles, including tricycles and delivery riders commonly found in Beijing’s bustling streets.
The AUDI E5 Sportback is a groundbreaking electric vehicle that combines cutting-edge technology with impressive performance, catering to the evolving demands of the Chinese market.
