Comparing the Mazda MX-5 ND and the Electric MX-5

When it comes to comparing the Mazda MX-5 ND and the Electric MX-5, it’s important to note that these cars offer something unique and cater to different preferences.

Electric MX-5

The Electric MX-5 is a revolutionary concept, although the price point is still uncertain. It is expected to exceed the cost of the top-tier ND model, making it a luxury purchase. With a range of only 160 miles on a single charge, it may not be a practical daily driver for everyone.

In terms of performance, the Electric MX-5 may offer slightly faster acceleration, but it lacks the engaging driving experience of the ND model. Without gears to shift or an engine to rev, the Electric MX-5 may feel less connected to the driver. However, it still retains a mechanical feel and minimal digital interfaces, such as the discreetly placed battery gauge in the glovebox.

It’s worth noting that while the ND model could serve as a primary vehicle, the Electric MX-5 is better suited as a second or third car due to its limited range and higher cost.

Despite their differences, both cars maintain the signature characteristics of MX-5s, including light steering, precise seating position, and balanced weight distribution. These elements contribute to the overall driving pleasure that MX-5 enthusiasts appreciate.
