Tested: 2025 Fiat 500e – Full review, price & features

The Fiat 500e is a budget-friendly electric vehicle that may not offer luxurious materials, but it does have some unique design elements that make it stand out. The interior features a retro design with bright body-color panels on the dashboard, fabric inserts in the doors, and vibrant seat upholstery. While the surfaces are mostly made of hard plastics, the overall aesthetic is pleasing.

One of the distinctive features of the 500e is the row of climate control buttons located under the infotainment touchscreen. While physical controls are welcome, they feel flimsy and are prone to fingerprints. The optional heated seats, essential for maximizing range in an electric vehicle, are controlled through the touchscreen.

The seats in the 500e are upholstered from recycled plastic, offering a firm but comfortable seating experience. While the cushion may be a bit short and flat, and there is no adjustable lumbar support, they are adequate for most journeys. However, there are some ergonomic issues with the driving position, such as the lack of standard base height adjustment on the driver’s seat, which can result in a compromised driving position.

Tall drivers may find visibility hindered by the interior mirror and end up looking through the top third of the windscreen. Additionally, Fiat’s right-hand drive conversion may pose challenges for drivers, with a center console intruding into the footwell and limited space for the left foot. Interior space is limited, especially in the three-door configuration, making it difficult for adults to sit comfortably in the back seats.

Despite its compact size, the Fiat 500e offers a multimedia system that is impressive for the brand. The infotainment interface may initially seem overwhelming, but it is logical and responsive once you become familiar with it. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, along with a wireless charger, add convenience to the driving experience. However, some physical menu buttons found in other Fiat models are missing in the 500e.

In terms of practicality, the small boot of the 500e has a flat floor and a square shape, but the parcel shelf is small and not very useful. Rear seats that fold in a 50:50 configuration are standard on higher trim levels, leaving a step in the loading area when folded down. Overall, the Fiat 500e may not be the most luxurious electric vehicle, but it offers a unique design, functional features, and a budget-friendly option for eco-conscious drivers.
