X Square Robot secures nearly 1 billion yuan in Series A+ funding

X Square Robot, a Chinese humanoid robot startup, has recently secured nearly 1 billion yuan in a Series A+ funding round. The funding was led by Alibaba Cloud and CAS Investment, with additional participation from China Development Bank Capital, HSG, and INCE Capital. Existing shareholder Meituan’s strategic investment arm also increased its stake in the company, while Legend Star and Legend Capital expanded their commitments.

This significant investment marks Alibaba Cloud’s first foray into the humanoid robot industry, showcasing their confidence in X Square Robot’s technology. The cloud services provider has pledged to offer comprehensive support to the company. The newly raised funds will be used to further develop X Square Robot’s fully self-developed general-purpose embodied intelligence foundation model and enhance its hardware products.

Established in late 2023, X Square Robot is one of the early pioneers in achieving end-to-end embodied intelligence large models. The company has successfully developed the “WALL-A” series of VLA (vision-language-action) operation models, establishing a unified cognitive and action framework. This model has demonstrated exceptional performance in untrained tasks and has introduced embodied chain-of-thought reasoning, significantly enhancing the execution of multi-step, long-horizon tasks. By mid-2024, X Square Robot had achieved complex manipulation using high-degree-of-freedom dexterous robotic hands.

In a move to drive industry-wide progress, X Square Robot has open-sourced its embodied foundation model “Wall-OSS” and provided training code for developers to fine-tune the model for practical applications. The model, trained on extensive real-world datasets, utilizes a “shared attention + expert routing” architecture to deliver strong generalization, reasoning capabilities, and long-range operational performance.

On the hardware front, X Square Robot recently unveiled its fully self-developed wheeled dual-arm humanoid robot “Quanta X2.” The system, dexterous hands, and exoskeleton teleoperation devices were all designed in-house. The robot’s five-fingered dexterous hand boasts 20 degrees of freedom and can detect subtle pressure changes. Additionally, the integrated arm-hand exoskeleton allows for full-body teleoperation. The Quanta X2 robot has already been deployed in collaboration with leading clients in various service and industrial sectors across multiple scenarios.

This impressive funding round and technological advancements highlight X Square Robot’s commitment to innovation and industry leadership in the field of humanoid robotics. With the support of prominent investors and a strong focus on developing cutting-edge technology, X Square Robot is poised for continued success in the future.
