Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra Sets New Nürburgring Lap Record
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has made headlines once again by setting a new speed record at the renowned Nürburgring circuit in Germany. Following the impressive performance of its prototype last October, the SU7 Ultra production model has now become the fastest production electric vehicle (EV) to race on the historic circuit.
Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun took to Weibo to announce that the SU7 Ultra achieved a remarkable lap time of 7:04.957 on the challenging Nürburgring track. This achievement surpasses the previous record set by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT in September 2023, solidifying the SU7 Ultra’s position as a leader in the EV market.
Race car driver Vincent Radermecker was behind the wheel during the record-breaking lap, showcasing the exceptional performance capabilities of the SU7 Ultra. Lei Jun expressed confidence that this record will be broken again in the near future, highlighting Xiaomi’s commitment to pushing boundaries in the automotive industry.
The SU7 Ultra was launched by Xiaomi on March 28, 2024, positioning it as a direct competitor to Tesla’s Model 3. With a focus on power and performance, the SU7 Ultra prototype had previously completed the Nürburgring circuit challenge in October 2024, boasting a lap time of 6:46.874 and claiming the title of the fastest four-door car on the track.
The production version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra was officially launched in late February, featuring a maximum power output of 1,548 Ps and positioning itself as one of the most powerful EV models in the Chinese market. Priced at RMB 529,900 ($73,740), the SU7 Ultra has garnered significant interest, with over 19,000 firm orders and more than 10,000 units already locked in.
Despite initial criticisms surrounding issues like ventilation and power restrictions, discussions have gradually subsided as the SU7 Ultra continues to impress with its performance capabilities. Looking ahead, Xiaomi is set to expand its EV lineup with the upcoming launch of the YU7, its first electric SUV, catering to a broader range of preferences.
With the official unveiling of the YU7 in May and the launch scheduled for July, Xiaomi is poised to further solidify its presence in the EV market. As the company continues to innovate and push boundaries, the future looks bright for Xiaomi’s growing electric vehicle business.
