Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its second model, the upcoming SUV known as the MX11, in the first quarter of 2025. Chinese media reports suggest that the production version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra will be officially released in March 2025.
According to insiders, the SUV is expected to hit the market in February or March. The launch timing may align with the rhythm of the SU7 launch, which took place earlier this year on March 28th.
Renderings of the Xiaomi SUV hint at a sleek and low-profile design, drawing comparisons to the Ferrari Purosangue. However, elements from the SU7, such as the headlights, continuous tail lights, frameless doors, and semi-hidden door handles, are also expected in the new model.
While spy shots of the heavily camouflaged test models have circulated online, recent reports suggest that Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun was spotted testing the SUV on a highway.
Interior shots reveal significant differences from the SU7, particularly in the center console design. The new SUV features wireless mobile phone chargers, cup holders, and a central armrest with a cubbyhole, omitting the row of vertical buttons seen in the SU7.
In terms of pricing, Xiaomi is likely to follow a similar strategy to that of the SU7, aiming to compete with Tesla’s Model Y. With Tesla Model Y prices ranging from 249,900 yuan to 354,900 yuan in China, the Xiaomi SUV is expected to be priced below 250,000 yuan.
Xiaomi is currently working on the second phase of its factory, F2, to meet the growing demand for its vehicles. However, completion of the factory and production may not align with the SUV’s launch timeline, potentially impacting Xiaomi’s Q1 plans.
Despite production challenges, the SUV is anticipated to outsell the sedan, posing a dilemma for Xiaomi as it navigates supply constraints. The company may need to consider shifting to a three-shift pattern at the existing factory to meet demand.
