Ford has issued a recall for 2,416 vehicles due to a potential safety issue with a suspension component that could detach and cause a loss of steering control. The affected vehicles include 2024-2025 Ford Bronco SUVs and 2024 Ford Ranger pickup trucks that were assembled between June and September of this year.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some of these vehicles may have a missing or improperly torqued nut on the ball joint that secures the front upper control arm to the knuckle assembly. If this nut is not properly secured, it could cause the front upper control arm to separate from the knuckle assembly, leading to a potential loss of steering control and increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford became aware of the issue through a warranty report describing a missing ball joint fastener on a 2024 Ranger. While the automaker is aware of four such reports related to this issue, there have been no reported crashes, fires, or injuries caused by the condition.
To address the issue, Ford is instructing owners to visit their dealership, where technicians will inspect the front suspension to ensure that the ball joint fasteners are tightened properly. If the fastener is loose or missing, dealers will either tighten it or replace the ball joint and knuckle assembly. All of this work will be performed free of charge.
Owner notification letters are set to be mailed out on October 28, and owners can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or visit Ford’s recall site for more information. The recall reference number is 24S64.
The Ford Ranger was redesigned for 2024 with three turbocharged engine options, large touchscreens, and styling similar to the larger Ford F-150. The Bronco, on the other hand, has been around in its current form since the 2021 model year. It’s worth noting that some 2021 and 2022 Bronco models were included in a recent recall of Ford turbocharged engines announced last month.
In conclusion, Ford is taking proactive measures to address the safety issue with the suspension component in these vehicles to ensure the continued safety of their customers on the road.
