KGM SsangYong is a brand with a long history in the automotive industry, celebrating 70 years of car manufacturing last year. Originally known as Dong-A Motors in 1954, the brand has gone through various name changes over the years. The SsangYong name emerged in the 1980s as the brand expanded globally alongside other Korean automakers like Hyundai, Kia, and Daewoo.

Despite its long history, SsangYong faced challenges and had to be bought out multiple times. From Daewoo to General Motors, SAIC in China, and eventually Mahindra in India. In 2022, the brand was acquired by the KG Group, a Korean conglomerate with diverse business interests. Globally, SsangYong rebranded as KG Mobility, but the brand retained its SsangYong name in Australia.

The Actyon, a mid-sized SUV, is a testament to SsangYong’s efforts to reinvent itself. Originally launched in 2005, the Actyon has undergone significant changes to become a sleek and stylish SUV. With a design related to the Torres model, the Actyon features a longer, wider, and lower profile, making it stand out in the mid-sized SUV segment.

Inside, the Actyon boasts a modern and sophisticated interior with twin 12.3-inch digital screens, leather upholstery, and premium materials. The cabin offers ample storage space, comfortable seats, and a generous amount of legroom for passengers. The Actyon’s boot is exceptionally roomy, further enhancing its practicality.

Under the hood, the Actyon is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine, delivering adequate power and torque for daily driving. However, the firm suspension and traction issues may impact the overall driving experience, especially on rough roads. Safety features include advanced driver-assist technologies, airbags, and high-strength steel construction.

While the Actyon has some flaws to overcome, including engine thirst and ride quality, it represents a step towards a more upmarket image for SsangYong. With the right pricing, the Actyon could be a success in the competitive mid-sized SUV market in Australia. Overall, the Actyon combines style, practicality, and modern features to appeal to a wide range of consumers.
