The Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class is positioned at the top of the luxury automaker’s SUV lineup, offering seating for up to seven passengers across three rows. With a body longer than the rugged G-Class, the GLS-Class competes with vehicles like the Cadillac Escalade and BMW X7 in terms of size and luxury. The lineup includes a range of models, from the base version to the high-performance AMG variant and the ultra-opulent Maybach edition, which rivals the likes of Bentley’s Bentayga.

Despite its high price tag and relatively low fuel efficiency, the GLS-Class impresses with its spacious interior, luxurious amenities, and impressive performance. On the 10-point TCC Rating scale, it earns a solid 7.2 rating. Updates for the 2025 model year are minimal, with the addition of a biometric fingerprint sensor as standard across the lineup. Mercedes also introduces new paint colors and interior schemes through the Manufaktur Signature lineup, along with new options like the Manufaktur Signature Interior Package. The AMG GLS now features the AMG crest on the front seat headrests, while the Maybach version offers a Night Series Design Package with exclusive detailing.

Visually, the GLS-Class sports a bold design with a distinctive four-slat grille and large air intakes. The AMG models feature monochrome color schemes and oversized wheels, while the Maybach versions exude subtle luxury with branded details throughout the exterior. Inside, the GLS-Class boasts a central touch display with multiple configurations, including an Off-Road mode that provides close-up ground views for obstacle navigation.

Under the hood, the GLS-Class lineup utilizes a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to enhance performance and improve fuel economy. All models come with a 9-speed automatic transmission and torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system. The entry-level GLS 450 features a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine with 375 horsepower, while the GLS 580 upgrades to a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 producing 510 horsepower. The Maybach variant offers a tuned version of the V-8 with 550 horsepower, and the top-of-the-line AMG GLS 63 boasts 603 horsepower for thrilling acceleration.

The AMG version stands out with upgraded underpinnings that include an air suspension system, adaptive damping, and active roll stabilization for improved handling. The GLS 580 strikes a balance between price, performance, and luxury, making it a popular choice among buyers. Inside, the GLS-Class exudes luxury with features borrowed from the S-Class sedan, offering spacious seating for six or seven passengers and premium materials throughout.

Pricing for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class starts at $90,350 for the GLS 450 4Matic and goes up to $179,600 for the Maybach version. Safety features include automatic emergency braking, surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitors, and advanced driver-assistance technologies. While the GLS-Class has not been crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS, it offers a comprehensive suite of safety features for peace of mind.

The Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class is manufactured in Alabama, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail in every vehicle. With its combination of luxury, performance, and advanced technology, the GLS-Class continues to be a top choice for discerning buyers in the luxury SUV segment.
