2025 Subaru Outback marks end of an era

The 2025 Subaru Outback is a unique offering in the automotive market, blending the practicality of a station wagon with the ruggedness of an SUV. With its comfortable ride, smooth powertrain, and spacious interior, it has been a popular choice for families looking for a versatile vehicle. However, as we look towards the future with the upcoming 2026 model, it seems that Subaru is shifting towards a more SUV-like design.

One key highlight of the 2025 Subaru Outback is its lifted station wagon design. Priced competitively starting at $30,430, it offers a great value for those in search of a wagon with all-wheel drive. The Touring XT model, priced at $44,330, comes loaded with features like a Harman Kardon sound system and leather-trimmed seats, making it a luxurious option in its segment.

On the downside, some may find Subaru’s safety systems to be a bit overbearing. The active lane assist and other safety features can be quite intrusive, making driving feel like being in a nanny state. Additionally, the lack of a hybrid powertrain option in the 2025 model may be a drawback for those looking for more fuel-efficient options.

Despite these drawbacks, the Subaru Outback shines in terms of its powertrain. The turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-4 engine delivers a smooth and powerful performance, with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. The comfortable ride and spacious interior make it a great choice for long road trips, with ample cargo space for all your family’s belongings.

However, there are some minor issues with the rear seatbelt retraction system, as reported by some users. The seatbelts tend to get tangled when retracting, causing frustration for passengers, especially children. This small design flaw may be something Subaru needs to address in future models.

Overall, the 2025 Subaru Outback remains a top choice for families in need of a versatile and comfortable vehicle. While it may have its quirks and imperfections, its unique blend of wagon and SUV characteristics make it a standout option in its class. As we look towards the future with the 2026 model, it will be interesting to see how Subaru continues to innovate and evolve the Outback to meet the changing needs of consumers.
