Volkswagen has resumed production of its ID.4 electric crossover after a brief pause to address faulty door handles. While some features and the smaller battery pack are temporarily unavailable, the 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 is now back on the market with a starting price of $46,520, including a $1,425 destination charge that remains unchanged from the previous model year.
The base model for the 2025 ID.4 is the single-motor rear-wheel-drive Pro with an 82-kwh battery pack. Despite a slight increase in price compared to the previous model year, the ID.4 still offers good value when compared to competitors such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium, Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE, and Honda Prologue. However, it is slightly more expensive than the Hyundai Ioniq 6 SE Long Range sedan and the smaller Chevy Equinox EV, which has been named the best buy in the electric crossover segment.
The ID.4 Pro comes equipped with a 12.9-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats with synthetic leather upholstery, and ambient lighting. The mid-level ID.4 Pro S adds features such as illuminated badges, cooled power seats with memory, a heated steering wheel, and a panoramic glass roof.
For an additional $3,900, buyers can opt for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive option on the Pro and Pro S models, which comes standard on the top-of-the-line Pro S Plus. This top trim level includes 21-inch wheels, silver accents, heated rear seats, a surround-view camera system, and a premium 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
Volkswagen has promised that all models will receive additional content later in the year, and the 62-kwh battery pack will eventually make a return. The automaker had to halt sales and production of the ID.4 in September 2024 due to a recall affecting nearly 100,000 vehicles. The issue stemmed from improperly manufactured door handles that could allow water seepage onto circuit boards, potentially causing doors to unlock unexpectedly. A fix has since been implemented, allowing production to resume at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, Tennessee plant.
Overall, the 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 offers a compelling option in the electric crossover market, with competitive pricing and a range of features to suit different preferences and needs.
