BMW’s flagship electric crossover, the 2026 BMW iX, is set to hit the market with a range of new models and improved features. With a release date scheduled for the second quarter of 2025, BMW recently announced that the 2026 iX will be available in three models, each offering a greater range of miles compared to previous models.
The new lineup includes a more affordable base model, the iX xDrive45, which replaces the xDrive40 promised for the 2025 model year. Priced at $76,325 (including destination charge), the base model offers an estimated EPA range of 312 miles, surpassing the xDrive50’s range of 309 miles. The xDrive50 will be upgraded to the xDrive60 for 2026, with a range of 340 miles and a price tag of $89,675. The range-topping model, the iX M70, will cost $112,675 and offer a range of 302 miles.
One of the key advancements in the 2026 BMW iX is the use of silicon anodes in the battery cells, resulting in greater energy density and faster charging speeds. Other improvements include new wheel bearings that reduce friction, more efficient headlights, and upgraded inverter technology to boost power density and efficiency.
Visually, the 2026 iX features a boxier front fascia with a distinctive iron butterfly solid grille. The interior is highlighted by a curved dash display housing a 12.3-inch gauge cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. The vehicle also offers enhanced gaming and streaming options for added entertainment.
All models come equipped with dual-motor all-wheel drive and a standard heat pump to conserve energy in cold weather. The iX XDrive45 boasts a 100.1-kWh battery pack, while the XDrive60 and M70 models feature 113.4-kWh and 112.8-kWh battery packs, respectively. Performance varies across the models, with the M70 delivering an impressive 650 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque, capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds.
Charging capabilities have also been enhanced, with the iX able to fast-charge at up to 195 kW via its CCS port. BMW plans to introduce Tesla Supercharger access later this year using adapters, further expanding charging options for iX owners.
Overall, the 2026 BMW iX represents a significant step forward in electric vehicle technology, offering improved range, performance, and features to meet the demands of modern drivers. With its sleek design and cutting-edge technology, the iX is poised to make a lasting impression in the electric vehicle market.
