Tesla offers Chinese owners 1 month of free FSD use to boost adoption

Tesla has recently announced a limited-time offer for Chinese owners to experience the Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature for free on eligible vehicles. The promotion will run from March 17 to April 16, allowing owners to update to the latest software and enjoy the FSD experience at no additional cost.

The FSD software package typically costs RMB 64,000 ($8,850) in China, making this promotion a significant value proposition for Tesla owners. In comparison, local automakers like BYD and Xpeng offer similar software features for free, further incentivizing Tesla to enhance its offering in the competitive Chinese market.

The FSD feature is designed to provide advanced assisted driving capabilities, although Tesla emphasizes that it is still classified as Level 2 automation and requires driver intervention in many scenarios. Drivers must keep both hands on the steering wheel, remain alert to the road and surrounding traffic, and be prepared to take immediate action if necessary.

Tesla’s initiative to offer the FSD experience for free is aimed at encouraging more owners to explore the capabilities of the feature. By allowing trial customers to experience and provide feedback on the FSD feature, Tesla hopes to drive adoption and potentially increase subscriptions to the premium software package.

The software update for eligible vehicles was rolled out on February 25, bringing advanced smart driving features similar to FSD in the US to Chinese Tesla owners. With positive reviews from automotive bloggers and an increased focus on enhancing the FSD experience, Tesla is committed to delivering cutting-edge technology to its customers in China.

By offering the FSD experience for free for a limited period, Tesla is showcasing its commitment to customer satisfaction and innovation in the autonomous driving space. As the automotive industry continues to evolve with technological advancements, Tesla remains at the forefront of delivering groundbreaking features and solutions to its global customer base.
