Ionity Launches EV Charge Card with Discounted Rates for Fleets
Ionity has recently introduced a new EV charge card specifically designed for fleets, offering discounted rates to attract time-sensitive business drivers to its rapidly expanding network of rapid-charging hubs. This initiative aims to cater to the needs of fleet operators looking for efficient and cost-effective charging solutions for their electric vehicles.
The manufacturer-backed Ionity network is set to install 500 additional chargers in the UK this year, significantly increasing the current count of 379 operational chargers across the country. Each charging hub is equipped with at least six 350kW ultra-high-speed chargers, minimizing the risk of long wait times for drivers. Furthermore, these chargers are powered by 100% renewable energy, aligning with the growing sustainability goals of businesses.
Ionity Fleet, the new offering, provides similar benefits to the existing Ionity Passport subscription schemes. By subscribing to Ionity Fleet, fleet operators can enjoy discounted charging rates, with the option to reduce the standard rate of 74p/kWh to as low as 43p/kWh through the top-tier £10.50 monthly membership plan.
For popular electric vehicle models like the Tesla Model Y Long Range, utilizing the Ionity Fleet card can significantly reduce per-mile energy costs, making it a cost-effective solution for fleet operations. While the subscription fee can be recouped within a short distance, it’s essential to consider HMRC-approved Advisory Electric Rates (AER) when expensing business mileage to avoid potential tax implications.
Ionity Fleet simplifies the charging process for fleets by providing each driver with a unique RFID card for tap-and-go access to the chargers. The platform streamlines billing by consolidating all charging costs into a single monthly invoice, allowing for easy tracking and allocation of expenses across different departments and teams.
Additionally, Ionity Fleet offers customizable options for fleets, including the ability to restrict charging access to specific countries or grant drivers access to Ionity’s extensive network of chargers across Europe. Businesses with a large fleet of vehicles can even personalize the charge cards with their branding, enhancing brand visibility during charging sessions.
Moreover, Ionity prioritizes data privacy by not collecting personal information to comply with GDPR requirements, ensuring that fleet operators can confidently utilize the charging services without concerns about data protection.
Andreas Atkins, Ionity’s country manager for the UK and Ireland, emphasized the importance of providing fleets with direct access to competitive charging rates. He highlighted the positive response from SMEs with regular routes, recognizing Ionity’s charging locations as an ideal fit for their operational needs.
