Xiaomi is making significant strides in expanding its electric vehicle (EV) production capacity with the latest news of the company’s planned expansion of its second EV factory in Beijing. According to a report by Bloomberg, Xiaomi has begun the expansion of its second factory on a 53-hectare site in Beijing’s Yizhuang district, with plans to occupy an adjacent plot of about 52 hectares.
The initial construction of the factory began last year, with Xiaomi purchasing the site for RMB 842 million yuan ($116 million). The factory is expected to commence production in the middle of this year. The new expansion will further boost Xiaomi’s EV production capabilities to meet the surging demand for electric vehicles in the market.
In a recent announcement on Weibo, Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun revealed that the company has raised its 2025 vehicle delivery target to 350,000 units, up from the previous target of 300,000 units. This increase in production capacity reflects Xiaomi’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for its electric vehicles.
Xiaomi officially launched the SU7 electric sedan in March 2024, which has garnered significant interest from consumers. The company also introduced the SU7 Ultra, a high-performance version of the electric sedan, with impressive specifications including 1,548 Ps of maximum horsepower.
With strong demand for the SU7 and SU7 Ultra models, Xiaomi continues to ramp up production to fulfill customer orders. The company’s car factory in Beijing currently has an annual capacity of 150,000 units, with plans for further expansion to accommodate the production of new models like the upcoming YU7 electric SUV.
The expansion of Xiaomi’s EV factory in Beijing underscores the company’s commitment to the electric vehicle market and its ambition to become a key player in the industry. With the increasing demand for electric vehicles globally, Xiaomi’s strategic investments in production capacity will position the company for future growth and success in the EV market.
