US-based electric mobility ecosystem company Faraday Future Intelligent Electric (FF) has recently introduced the world’s first company dedicated to AI hybrid extended-range (AIHER) electric powertrain systems, known as Future AIHER.

The announcement was made during FF’s inaugural Open AI Day, where the company showcased its AI strategy, products, and technologies.

Future AIHER, a subsidiary of FF, will primarily focus on designing and developing a super AIHER and a super AI extended-range system, along with offering comprehensive powertrain solutions. The main goal of the subsidiary is to commercialize AI-driven range extender systems for extended range electric vehicles (EREVs).

The strategic plan of Future AIHER includes two phases – short-term integration of existing third-party range extender technology into the Faraday X (FX) concept vehicles for quicker market entry and long-term development of its own AI-driven range extender solutions, potentially expanding commercialization opportunities to other mobility OEMs, including the electric vertical takeoff and landing industry.

FF’s comprehensive AI strategy aims to introduce new revenue streams through in-car subscriptions and AI-driven value-added services, enhancing user loyalty and recognition. The company’s products are designed to act as “intelligent partners” for users, offering natural interaction methods like voice and gesture controls for a personalized AI experience.

Through its “AI-First” approach and co-creation ecosystem, FF is driving the evolution of cars from traditional vehicles to intelligent mobile devices. By collaborating with global developers and AI experts, FF is pushing industry-wide innovation and setting new benchmarks for future smart vehicles.

The company’s AI product development plan consists of four phases, starting from integrating large AI models and basic voice assistant features to building an AI automotive operating system (AIOS) and opening APIs for co-creation. FF plans to accelerate the launch of three core AI-powered products for potential future FX mass-production models, with powertrain innovations as a key focus.

In response to known issues with plug-in hybrid powertrains, such as delayed power delivery, weak performance, and limited intelligence capabilities, FF is developing the Super AIHER system. This system aims to address these flaws and enhance the advantages of range extenders and plug-in hybrids to new heights.

Overall, FF’s dedication to AI-driven innovation in the electric mobility sector is paving the way for smarter, more efficient vehicles and setting new standards for the industry.
