Renault to Revive Iconic “Fast and Furious” Cars from the 90s and 2000s

Renault is set to bring back some of its most iconic “Fast and Furious” cars from the 1990s and early 2000s, tapping into its rich back catalogue. This exciting news was revealed by group design chief Laurens van den Acker at the launch of the new Renault 5 Turbo 3E.

Van den Acker believes that there is a growing demand for retro revivals, with a “window of opportunity” opening up for desirable classics like the Renault 4 and Renault 5. He emphasized the importance of timing, stating that waiting too long could result in people forgetting about these cars, while being too early may not generate enough interest.

Reflecting on past successes, van den Acker mentioned the Alpine A110 revival from a decade ago and highlighted the need to act swiftly to preserve automotive heritage. He sees the current era as ideal for reintroducing cars from the ’70s and ’80s, with a focus on “Fast and Furious” models in the next decade.

Van den Acker teased enthusiasts with a glimpse of what’s to come, mentioning potential revivals of Subarus, Hondas, Datsuns, and Volkswagen Golf GTIs. He envisions these models evolving with the tastes of consumers, offering a blend of nostalgia and modern technology.

The strategy could lead to the resurrection of classics like the Clio V6 and Sport Spider, both rear-driven vehicles that could benefit from Renault’s all-aluminum electric car platform. This shift towards electric drivetrains aligns with the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Van den Acker credited the close collaboration between designers and engineers at Renault for making these revivals possible. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and shared vision in bringing iconic cars back to life for a new generation of enthusiasts.

The launch of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is part of a broader initiative to blend the best of the past with the innovations of the future. Van den Acker’s vision for Renault’s future models revolves around honoring the brand’s heritage while embracing cutting-edge technology.

As Renault gears up to revive “Fast and Furious” cars and other classics, automotive enthusiasts can look forward to a thrilling blend of nostalgia and innovation on the roads ahead.
