SAIC Motor’s Haitong Taicang Automobile Terminal Officially Commences Operations
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 12, 2024, the Haitong Taicang Automobile Terminal, a collaborative project by SAIC Motor, Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd. (“SIPG”), and Jiangsu Port Logistics Group Co., Ltd., has officially commenced operations.
Haitong Taicang Automobile Terminal, a significant automobile roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel terminal along the Yangtze River, has an annual throughput capacity of 1.3 million vehicles. This state-of-the-art facility plays a crucial role in global trade and the automotive supply chain, offering comprehensive ocean logistics services to automakers, including SAIC Motor, and paving the way for Chinese automotive brands to expand into international markets.
SAIC Motor has established a robust international business ecosystem, encompassing innovation centers, production facilities, marketing hubs, supply chain networks, and financial services. Its products and services are now available in over 100 countries and regions, with the MG brand gaining widespread recognition in key markets such as the UK, France, Germany, and Australia.
SAIC Motor’s overseas sales reached 937,000 vehicles in the first eleven months of 2024, with impressive growth in European markets. SAIC Anji Logistics, a subsidiary of SAIC Motor and a global leader in automobile logistics, plays a pivotal role in this success story, with operations spanning across China and over 100 countries worldwide.
The Haitong Terminal under SAIC Anji Logistics boasts an estimated throughput of 3.5 million vehicles in 2024, making it one of the world’s largest RoRo vessel terminals. Its Taicang automobile terminal covers 960,000 square meters, accommodating two 70,000-tonne RoRo ships and one 3,000-tonne vessel simultaneously, with parking for 32,000 vehicles and five service centers for vehicle storage, inspection, maintenance, and charging.
