GAC Group Unveils Second-Generation Embodied Intelligent Robot at 2024 PBCIFC

GAC Group recently showcased its self-developed second-generation embodied intelligent robot at the 2024 Pearl Bay International Climate Investment and Financing Conference (PBCIFC). This cutting-edge robot represents a significant advancement in artificial intelligence technology, with the ability to interact with the physical world.

The concept of “embodied intelligence” refers to intelligent systems that have physical forms and can engage with their environments. GAC Group’s third-generation robotics, currently in development, is set to introduce a new humanoid robot by the end of this year. These embodied robots offer exceptional mobility, precise operational skills, and the capacity to continuously learn and evolve through interactions with their surroundings.

Mr. Liu Jujiang, head of the Forward-Looking Technology Department at GAC R&D Center, explained that the company began researching and developing embodied intelligent robots back in 2022 as part of its strategic development plan. GAC aims to create value for human mobility by implementing a multi-scenario mobility system that includes three-dimensional transportation, ground mobile travel, and indoor-outdoor mobility.

GAC R&D Center has repurposed automotive-grade components like chips and LiDAR for robotics, leveraging its mature supply chain for intelligent connected new energy vehicles. By utilizing these components, GAC can lower R&D costs while ensuring high performance and premium quality that meets stringent automotive standards.

The development of intelligent robots aligns with GAC Group’s vision of improving human lifestyles and anticipating future needs. By combining wheeled legs with humanoid robotic arms, the company believes it has found the optimal solution for intelligent robots that can handle a wide range of tasks, from simple household chores to complex industrial operations.

In the manufacturing industry, intelligent robots are increasingly being adopted to enhance production efficiency and product quality. In automotive manufacturing, these robots play a crucial role in processes like welding and assembly, accelerating production speed and improving overall vehicle quality.

Dr. Zhang Aimin, head of GAC’s robotics R&D team, highlighted the features of the new embodied intelligent robot, including a variable wheeled leg structure for all-terrain mobility, a dexterous hand system with visual and tactile sensors, and force feedback capabilities. The robot also integrates large-scale artificial intelligence models for remote and local control, as well as autonomous operation.

GAC’s embodied intelligent robot incorporates cutting-edge technologies such as sensor systems, control systems, and AI algorithms. By focusing on full-stack, in-house development of key components, GAC ensures control over core technologies while managing costs effectively.

Overall, GAC Group’s foray into the robotics sector demonstrates its commitment to innovation and technological advancement. The company’s efforts in developing intelligent robots have the potential to revolutionize various industries and improve efficiency in a wide range of applications.
