Remember that time when a massive storm hit during a ferry journey, making it the worst experience ever? The memories of that tumultuous night still linger in my mind.
Recalling the Adventure
Two adventurous individuals, whose names escape me now, embarked on a daring mission to bring an Amphi-Ranger, an amphibious 4×4, from Germany to the UK for potential marketing.
Driving through Europe with their unique vehicle, they reached the English Channel and decided to push the boundaries by navigating the busy waters, evading ferries and ships along the way. The temptation to join them on a trip to the Isle of Wight was irresistible.
Setting off from Portsmouth, the unconventional journey began with a bumpy ride along the pavement, drawing curious gazes from onlookers. Despite the odd setup and warning lights flashing, we made our way to the Isle of Wight, crashing Cowes week and exploring Ryde before getting stranded on a sandbank in the Solent at low tide.
Stepping out into the shallow waters, I made my way to the nearest pub, leaving behind the quirky amphibious vehicle and the memories of an unforgettable day.
Reminiscing with Andrew Frankel
Reflecting on the launch of the original Ford Mondeo in 1993, I recall the excitement of preparing for the first group test as the road test editor at Autocar.
