Denza Unveils New Electric Concept to Rival Porsche and Maserati
BYD-owned premium brand Denza has recently unveiled a new concept car that is set to rival the likes of the Porsche 911 and Maserati Granturismo. Named the Denza Z, this electric coupé boasts a cab-forward design reminiscent of midship sports cars, while also offering seating for two small rear passengers, similar to the layout of the 911 and Mercedes-AMG GT.
Although detailed specifications have yet to be released, the Denza Z’s low-set, wide-hipped design and prominent rear wing clearly indicate a focus on performance.
Building on the success of the Denza Z9 GT, a Porsche Taycan competitor with a tri-motor powertrain producing 952bhp, the Denza Z is expected to surpass the 1000bhp mark. It is likely to incorporate innovative features such as the ability to ‘crab walk’, enabling sideways movement by distributing power to individual wheels.
One standout feature of the Denza Z is its steer-by-wire system, replacing the traditional steering rack with an electronic setup that offers a seamless balance between smooth cruising and responsive driving. The system also allows the flat-bottomed racing-inspired steering wheel to fold away when not in use.
The Denza Z is equipped with new magnetorheological dampers that can adapt to changes in road surfaces within milliseconds, ensuring a comfortable and controlled ride.
This launch comes as Denza expands into the European market, setting its sights on competing with prestigious performance brands like Porsche. BYD executive vice-president Stella Li expressed confidence in the brand’s ability to succeed in this competitive market, highlighting the cars’ performance capabilities and distinctive styling crafted by former Audi designer Wolfgang Egger.
