Embracing the Future of Driving: The Evolution of Vehicle Dynamics

In a recent interview, BMW’s Head of Driving Dynamics, Körber, shared his insights on the future of driving. He emphasized that while automated driving is on the rise, there will always be situations where driving remains a pleasurable experience. Körber highlighted the importance of engaging vehicle dynamics in such scenarios, where drivers make a conscious decision to actively drive.

According to Körber, the automotive industry is witnessing a parallel development: on one hand, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving technologies are gaining prominence, while on the other hand, the enjoyment and capability of driving are also becoming increasingly significant. He pointed to the trend in China where individuals are opting to ride motorbikes on country roads for recreational purposes, showcasing a growing appreciation for driving as a leisure activity.

Questioning the notion of cars solely functioning as robotaxis, Körber emphasized the emotional connection that individuals have with their vehicles. Investing in a high-performance car only to use it passively in autonomous mode seems counterintuitive to him. He believes that the joy of driving is not disappearing but rather evolving, making it a key focus for BMW.

As a brand, BMW targets a specific group of enthusiasts who value the driving experience. Körber reiterated the company’s commitment to staying true to its roots and delivering vehicles that embody the essence of driving pleasure.
