Exploring Jersey, a picturesque island in the English Channel, was a dream come true for the young photographer. Capturing the beauty of Noirmont Point as a teenager sparked his passion for photography, setting him on a path towards a successful career. Returning to this scenic spot was a top priority for him.
Upon landing on the island, our first stop was Bel Royal on the sunny south coast, home to Jersey’s only Kia dealer. The dealership graciously offered us a Kia Picanto for a 48-hour test drive, showcasing the popularity of this model on the narrow island roads.
We made a visit to the Jersey War Tunnels, a somber reminder of the island’s wartime history. The tunnels, originally intended as a hospital complex, stand as a testament to the hardships faced by the islanders during the war. The upcoming season promised to unveil more exhibits depicting the harsh realities of wartime Jersey.
At Bel Royal Motors, a family-owned business nearing its centenary, we were welcomed by the enthusiastic general manager, Simon Mills. Over a cup of tea, he shared insights into why the Kia Picanto has found success on the island. The compact size, affordable price point, and impressive seven-year warranty made it a popular choice among Jersey residents, outshining competitors like the Renault Clio.
Despite Jersey’s strong French influence and proximity to the French coast, the Kia Picanto held its own in the competitive market. The island’s unique blend of cultures and favorable weather conditions only added to the appeal of this practical and reliable vehicle.
