Chinese autonomous driving startup Momenta has recently announced a groundbreaking partnership with Uber Technologies, marking another significant collaboration for the US ride-sharing giant in the realm of self-driving vehicles. This partnership follows in the footsteps of Uber’s previous partnership with WeRide and aims to bring self-driving vehicles to the Uber platform, expanding into international markets outside of the US and China.

The strategic partnership between Momenta and Uber is set to commence in Europe in 2026, with plans to offer robotaxi services that include in-car safety officers. Momenta’s CEO, Cao Xudong, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing that Momenta’s existing partnerships with leading chip platforms and car companies, combined with Uber’s global reach, will pave the way for autonomous driving on a global scale.

Founded in 2016, Momenta has garnered investments from industry giants such as SAIC Motor, Toyota, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, and Nio Capital. This partnership with Uber solidifies Momenta’s position in the autonomous driving industry and underscores its commitment to driving the commercialization of self-driving robotaxi services worldwide.

The collaboration between Momenta and Uber mirrors a similar partnership between Uber and WeRide, another Chinese autonomous driving startup. Back in September 2024, WeRide announced a strategic partnership with Uber to integrate its self-driving vehicles onto Uber’s platform. Subsequently, WeRide and Uber launched robotaxi services in Abu Dhabi in December 2024, with plans to expand to Dubai and other international markets.

Today, WeRide announced an expansion of its partnership with Uber to include self-driving robotaxi services in 15 additional cities worldwide, including regions in Europe and the Middle East. This move signifies the growing trend of collaboration between autonomous driving startups and ride-sharing companies to revolutionize the future of transportation.

Overall, the partnership between Momenta and Uber signifies a major milestone in the advancement of self-driving technology and promises to deliver safer and more efficient travel experiences for users globally. As autonomous driving continues to gain momentum, partnerships like these are crucial in driving innovation and shaping the future of transportation.
