Audi Introduces Plug-In Hybrid Variant to A6 Range with Impressive Electric Range
Audi has expanded its new A6 lineup with the addition of a plug-in hybrid variant, offering up to 69 miles of electric-only driving. This latest model joins the recently launched Audi A5 plug-in hybrid and is part of the brand’s plan to introduce 10 new PHEVs across its lineup by 2025.
Powered by a PHEV powertrain shared with the A5, the A6 features a 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder engine that delivers 295bhp, allowing for a 0-62mph time of 6.0 seconds. In the UK, the A6 PHEV is exclusively available in four-wheel-drive Quattro configuration. Outside of the UK, a more powerful variant with 362bhp and 369lb ft of torque is also offered, achieving a 0-62mph time of 5.3 seconds.
One of the standout features of the new A6 PHEV is its increased electric range, thanks to a 25.9kWh (gross) battery – an upgrade from the previous generation’s 17.9kWh. This larger battery capacity provides 66 miles of range for the Avant model and an impressive 69 miles for the saloon variant. The battery can be charged using a maximum AC current of 11kW or through regenerative braking, with charging levels easily selected via paddles behind the steering wheel.
In addition to the A6 PHEV, Audi has recently introduced the A6 Avant and A6 saloon models, both featuring turbo petrol and turbo diesel hybrid powertrains. This lineup complements the technically unrelated A6 E-tron EV duo, offering customers a range of powertrain options to suit their preferences.
To differentiate between the various A6 variants, Audi has adopted a new badging system, with TFSI denoting petrol models, TDI for diesel, e-Hybrid for PHEVs, and E-tron for electric vehicles. Pricing for the A6 PHEVs in the UK has yet to be confirmed, but in Germany, the saloon starts at €65,800 (£55,890) and the Avant at €68,300 (£58,014).
Interested customers in the UK can expect order books for the A6 PHEV to open in early June, with deliveries scheduled to commence in September. With its impressive electric range and powerful performance, the Audi A6 PHEV is set to make a significant impact in the luxury plug-in hybrid market.
