Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, a subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn), has recently announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Mitsubishi Motors to supply a new electric vehicle (EV) model. Under the terms of the MOU, Foxtron will be responsible for developing the EV, which will be manufactured in Taiwan by Yulon Motor and then supplied to Mitsubishi Motors as an OEM product. The new vehicle model is set to be introduced to the markets in Australia and New Zealand in the second half of 2026.

This collaboration is a part of Mitsubishi Motors’ product planning strategy for the Oceania region, which extends through the year 2030. It aligns with the company’s broader electrification strategy, which includes hybrid and plug-in hybrid offerings in other markets. Mitsubishi Motors has already seen success with models like the updated Outlander PHEV and new hybrid EV models for the Xpander and Xforce in the ASEAN market.

The partnership with Foxtron also opens up opportunities for Mitsubishi Motors to source OEM models from Renault in Europe and Nissan in North America. Additionally, Mitsubishi is exploring global collaboration with alliance partners to strengthen its EV portfolio and work towards achieving carbon neutrality.

In a recent report, Mitsubishi Motors shared some impressive production figures, with a significant increase of 82.2% year-on-year, totaling 75,004 units produced in January 2025. Overseas production also saw a substantial rise, with a 67.4% year-on-year increase, including 31,360 units manufactured in Asia. Notably, Thailand’s production output soared to 15,031 units, a 61.6% jump, while Indonesian factories ramped up to 11,250 units, registering a robust 77.4% growth year-over-year. Domestically, the company sold 10,236 units, including imports to Japan, achieving a remarkable 114.3% surge from the previous year’s figures.

As Mitsubishi Motors continues to expand its EV lineup and strengthen its presence in the global market, the collaboration with Foxtron and other alliance partners is expected to drive innovation and growth in the electric vehicle sector. The company’s commitment to sustainability and carbon neutrality positions it as a key player in the evolution of the automotive industry towards a more environmentally friendly future.
