Mazda MX-5 Review 2025, Price & Specs

The Mazda MX-5 is a classic sports car that has stood the test of time, with the latest ND generation offering a fresh take on the iconic roadster. The interior of the MX-5 may be compact, but it still manages to feel modern and inviting. Compared to its predecessor, the NC generation, the ND model represents a significant leap forward in terms of design and functionality.

One of the first things you’ll notice when stepping inside the MX-5 is the snug fit of the cabin. For larger adults, there may be some challenges with the compact dimensions, as contact with the center console and door trim is inevitable. Taller drivers may also find themselves wishing for a bit more legroom. Despite a lower hip point compared to the NC, the seating position in the ND can feel slightly elevated, and headroom with the top up is somewhat limited. The addition of reach adjustment for the steering wheel in 2018 was a welcome improvement.

If you’re planning on taking long drives in your MX-5, opting for the Recaro seats can make a world of difference in terms of comfort and support. These seats provide better cushioning and lateral support, making them a worthwhile upgrade for those seeking a more enjoyable driving experience.

The simplicity of the MX-5’s interior is part of its charm, with a dashboard design reminiscent of the Mazda 2. The tactile switchgear and natty design elements add to the overall appeal of the cockpit-sized space. While soft-touch materials are scarce, the no-nonsense approach to the interior design suits the character of the sports car perfectly.

One of the standout features of the MX-5 is its manually operated roof, which is lightweight and easy to use. The compact size of the roof allows for a modest but usable boot space, perfect for weekend getaways. The multimedia system in the MX-5 is user-friendly, with intuitive menus and the option for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The addition of a larger 8.8-inch screen in 2024 further enhances the modern look of the infotainment system.

Overall, the Mazda MX-5 ND offers a blend of classic design and modern convenience, making it a timeless choice for driving enthusiasts. Whether you’re navigating city streets or cruising along the open road, the MX-5 delivers an exhilarating driving experience in a stylish and compact package.
