The Volkswagen ID 7 GTX: A Closer Look at the High-Performance Electric SUV

The Volkswagen ID 7 GTX is equipped with a four-wheel-drive powertrain, featuring a rear 282bhp Volkswagen Group APP550 permanent magnet synchronous electric motor and a front 107bhp asynchronous motor (AKA150). The rear motor serves as the primary drive unit, with the front motor kicking in when needed for added efficiency.

Although the total system output of the ID 7 GTX is capped at 335bhp, it offers a significant power boost compared to the standard version. However, it falls short of the 460bhp Tesla Model 3 Performance.

In addition to the power upgrade, the ID 7 GTX has undergone modifications to enhance its driving dynamics. The progressive steering and electronic differential lock system have been fine-tuned, while the Dynamic Chassis Control system has been optimized for a wider range of driving experiences. Volkswagen engineers have focused on software developments to improve overall performance.

One major technical improvement is the switch to an 86kWh battery pack, providing a range of 370 miles in the saloon version. The exterior of the GTX features subtle yet distinctive styling elements, including a new front bumper design, revamped daytime running lights, and a gloss-black front air intake. The rear boasts a horizontal light strip, illuminated VW badge, and customisable LED clusters.

Standard 20-inch wheels can be upgraded to 21-inch versions, with unique GTX wheel designs available. The ID 7 GTX is also offered in Tourer estate form, featuring the same mechanical components as the saloon but with a larger rear end to accommodate a spacious boot. The Tourer has a slightly reduced range of 363 miles due to its increased surface area.
