Oakland International Airport (OAK) in Alameda, California is making eco-friendly strides by adding five new battery-electric K9MD shuttle buses to its ground equipment fleet. These buses, manufactured by global EV leaders BYD, are part of OAK’s commitment to electrifying its entire ground operations fleet by 2030.

BYD, a Chinese brand that has been producing EVs in California since 2014, has been instrumental in providing sustainable transportation solutions to fleets worldwide. The K9MD buses, which can accommodate up to 42 passengers, boast a 208-mile operating range from a 352 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. With a 12-year warranty on the battery, fleet buyers can rest assured of their investment, while passengers benefit from a smooth, quiet, and electric ride experience.

“We applaud Oakland Airport and their commitment to electrifying its fleet,” said Jason Yan, Vice President of Sales at BYD Ride. “BYD Ride is thrilled to partner with OAK to offer sustainable transportation solutions that benefit both the environment and the community.”

The move towards electric buses at airports is crucial for reducing emissions and improving public health, especially for those living and working near these facilities. By electrifying ground operations, airports like OAK are taking a proactive step towards mitigating the impact of emissions on vulnerable populations.

In conclusion, the introduction of BYD’s battery-electric buses at Oakland International Airport marks a significant step towards a more sustainable future for air travel. With a focus on environmental stewardship and community well-being, OAK is setting an example for other airports to follow in the transition towards electrified ground operations.
