Honda to Enhance Production Capacity and Electric Vehicle Transition in China

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On July 26, Honda Motor revealed its strategy to optimize production capacity and expedite its shift towards electrification in China.

Currently, Honda China manages seven automobile production lines with a combined annual capacity of 1.49 million vehicles. As part of the optimization plan, GAC Honda will close its fourth production line, which has an annual capacity of 50,000 units, by October 2024. Dongfeng Honda will also halt operations of its second production line, with an annual capacity of 240,000 units, by November 2024. These adjustments will reduce Honda’s total annual production capacity in China from 1.49 million units to 1.2 million units.

In tandem with this, Honda Motor is accelerating its electrification efforts in China. A new electric vehicle (EV) plant under Dongfeng Honda is set to commence production in September 2024, followed by the launch of a new energy vehicle (NEV) factory by GAC Honda in November 2024.

Honda Motor has been actively venturing into the EV sector this year. On April 16, Honda introduced the Ye Series, a new EV lineup tailored for the Chinese market. The debut showcased the first set of Ye Series models, namely Ye P7 and Ye S7, along with the concept model for the second set, the Ye GT CONCEPT.

Honda announced its plans to launch a total of six Ye Series models in China by 2027.
