Tesla owners sue to break their leases over Musk making the cars ‘far-right totems’

Tesla leaseholders in France are taking legal action against the automaker in an attempt to terminate their leases due to Elon Musk’s controversial political affiliations. The group of 10 leaseholders claims that Tesla vehicles have become “far-right totems” and have damaged their reputation as owners of innovative and eco-friendly cars.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has faced criticism in recent years for his support of far-right politicians and promotion of conspiracy theories. His political involvement has alienated a significant portion of Tesla’s customer base, particularly in Europe, where sales have plummeted as a result.

In response to Musk’s actions, some Tesla owners have taken measures to distance themselves from the brand. Some have put stickers on their cars to show disapproval of Musk, while others have removed Tesla logos and replaced them with logos from other brands.

The group of leaseholders in France is now seeking to break their lease contracts and recover legal costs from the case. They argue that Tesla vehicles have become symbols of the far-right movement, contrary to their original intention of owning environmentally-friendly cars.

While Tesla used car prices are declining, leaseholders are still eager to terminate their leases and sever ties with the brand. It remains to be seen whether they have a strong case under French law.

Overall, the situation highlights the impact of a CEO’s actions on a company’s brand and customer base. Musk’s controversial behavior has led to a backlash from consumers and raised questions about the responsibility of corporate leaders in shaping public perception.
