Volkswagen ID 2 Prototype Spotted Testing Near Nürburgring
Volkswagen has recently been testing the highly anticipated ID 2, a key model for the brand, with prototypes spotted near Germany’s Nürburgring circuit. The test mules were cleverly disguised in Volkswagen Polo body panels to conceal the electric car’s design and avoid drawing too much attention.
Despite the camouflage, certain details such as the short front overhang, distinct fascia, and smaller rear lights indicate that the production model will closely resemble the 2023 ID 2all concept. VW’s design chief, Andreas Mindt, has expressed optimism about the final product, stating that it is even better than the concept.
The interior of the ID 2 prototype also offers some insights, with a flat-top steering wheel hinting at features borrowed from the smaller ID Every1 concept. This suggests that the production model may incorporate some of the same design elements and controls.
The Volkswagen ID 2 is expected to hit the market next year, priced at around £22,000, making it one of the most affordable EVs in the UK. Prior to its release, the ID 2X, a supermini-sized crossover variant priced at £25,000, will be unveiled at the Munich motor show in September, with sales scheduled to follow a year after the hatchback’s launch.
