Why an SUV from 2014 is vital to Volvo

The Volvo XC90, a timeless SUV, continues to captivate buyers with its unmatched appeal. Despite the company’s initial focus on electric vehicles, the XC90 and its sibling, the XC60, have solidified their positions as classic models that customers can’t get enough of. This trend underscores the enduring popularity of these vehicles, much like their predecessors.

Volvo’s current lineup reflects a strong preference for hybrid and ICE models over electric vehicles, with consumer demand varying by region. This diversity in propulsion systems allows customers to choose the vehicles that best suit their preferences. While Volvo’s transition to EVs has faced delays, the company’s CEO is steering the brand in the right direction by catering to customer demand for hybrid and ICE models.

The XC90’s production at Volvo’s South Carolina plant underscores the SUV’s significance in key markets like the USA. The decision to manufacture the XC60 at the same facility highlights Volvo’s commitment to meeting consumer demand for these popular models. In the UK, where electrified vehicles are favored, the XC90 offers a choice of mild or plug-in hybrid powertrains, both featuring standard all-wheel drive.

The 2025 XC90 boasts more than just a redesigned grille – its exterior enhancements include slimmer headlights, revised bumper covers, and updated wheels. The interior exudes elegance with light-colored wood, soft plastics, and minimalist chrome accents. The spacious seven-seater offers impressive adaptability, with ample cargo space and luxurious finishes that rival other premium brands.

Despite its age, the XC90 remains a benchmark for safety and crash protection, featuring advanced electronic systems and meticulous engineering. While the car excels in many aspects, minor drawbacks include fiddly controls and a few non-premium elements. However, these nuances do not detract from the XC90’s overall appeal as a top-tier Volvo model.

With its refined design, superior safety features, and competitive performance, the XC90 stands out as one of Volvo’s flagship models. As Volvo navigates its transition to electric vehicles, the XC90 and XC60’s continued success remains crucial for the brand’s financial stability. By meeting consumer demand for these iconic SUVs, Volvo is paving the way for a sustainable future in the automotive industry.

The newly facelifted Volvo XC90 is available starting at GBP63,790 for B5 mild-hybrid versions and GBP72,650 for T8 plug-in hybrids. With three model grades and standard all-wheel drive across all variants, the XC90 offers a premium driving experience that combines luxury with practicality.
