Tesla Model 3 Delivery Wait Times in China See Rare Increase

Tesla Model 3 electric sedans in China have recently experienced a surprising increase in delivery wait times, indicating potential adjustments at the Shanghai factory. The wait time for the long-range version has extended from 1-3 weeks to 3-5 weeks, while the performance version now requires 8-10 weeks for delivery.

This change marks the first adjustment in Model 3 delivery wait times in China since November of last year. The last time there was an increase in delivery wait times for Model 3 in China was on September 10, 2024. The Model Y crossover, another Tesla model produced locally in China, has not seen any changes in its delivery waiting time.

Tesla began selling the updated Model 3 in China in October 2023, with deliveries commencing at the end of that month. The performance variant of Model 3 was introduced in China in June 2024, while the updated Model Y was launched in January 2025.

In the first five months of this year, Tesla sold 201,926 vehicles in China, with Model 3 accounting for 37.28 percent of total sales and Model Y accounting for 62.72 percent. Despite the slight year-on-year decrease in overall sales, Tesla’s monthly sales in China have been fluctuating due to various factors, including export impacts and growing competition in the market.

Earlier this month, Tesla reintroduced its owner referral program in China after nearly two years, indicating a renewed focus on customer engagement and promotion. The company continues to navigate the dynamic Chinese market while striving to meet the demand for its popular electric vehicles.

The recent increase in delivery wait times for Model 3 in China suggests ongoing adjustments at Tesla’s Shanghai factory, reflecting the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality vehicles to its customers in the region. As Tesla continues to expand its presence in China’s electric vehicle market, it will be interesting to see how these adjustments impact delivery times and customer satisfaction in the coming months.
