JAC, Huawei sign new deal to deepen partnership

Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC) and Huawei have recently signed a new deal following the successful launch of their first joint model, the Maextro S800. Priced at RMB 708,000 ($98,570), the Maextro S800 garnered over 5,000 firm orders within just 19 days of hitting the market.

The strategic cooperation agreement was signed in Hefei, Anhui province, where JAC is headquartered. The agreement aims to deepen the partnership between the two companies and further promote the application of Huawei’s intelligent vehicle solutions on JAC’s vehicle platforms. This collaboration will focus on areas such as assisted driving, intelligent cockpits, and in-vehicle communication.

Senior executives from both JAC and Huawei, including JAC chairman and general manager Xiang Xingchu and Huawei rotating chairman Eric Xu, were present to witness the signing of the agreement. This agreement marks a new phase of strategic synergy between the two companies, although specific details of the deal were not disclosed.

The partnership between JAC and Huawei was first announced on December 1, 2023, with the goal of jointly developing electric vehicles (EVs). Last August, Huawei revealed that the new brand developed in collaboration with JAC would be named Maextro, targeting the ultra-luxury market.

On May 30, the Maextro S800 was officially launched, becoming the latest luxury sedan to enter the Chinese market. With a starting price of RMB 708,000 ($98,570), the Maextro S800 quickly gained traction, securing over 5,000 firm orders within 19 days of its launch. This model joins the likes of Nio’s ET9 and BYD sub-brand Yangwang’s U7 in expanding the luxury sedan market in China.

The success of the Maextro S800 underscores the growing demand for luxury electric vehicles in the Chinese market. With the strategic partnership between JAC and Huawei continuing to evolve, we can expect to see more innovative and technologically advanced vehicles from these two industry leaders in the future.
