Gotion High-tech (SHE: 002074) has announced a strategic partnership with Ehang (NASDAQ: EH), a Chinese electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) developer, to supply its latest 46-series cylindrical battery cells for Ehang’s EH216 series eVTOL aircraft. This collaboration marks a significant advancement for Gotion in the eVTOL sector.

The partnership aims to upgrade the power system of Ehang’s flagship EH216 series eVTOL with a customized power battery system solution using Gotion’s newly developed high-energy-density, high-power battery cells. The integration of these new batteries is expected to enhance the performance of the EH216 series, including longer flight ranges, stronger power output, and improved safety features.

In addition to the power system upgrade, the two companies plan to expand their cooperation to include more of Ehang’s future eVTOL products. This move underscores the commitment of both parties to drive innovation and technological advancements in the eVTOL industry.

The latest collaboration builds on a framework agreement signed in December 2023, where Gotion and Ehang agreed to jointly develop battery cells, battery packs, energy storage systems, and charging infrastructure for Ehang’s eVTOL products. The use of Gotion’s advanced 46-series cylindrical battery cell technology is expected to push the performance boundaries of the EH216 series to new heights.

Ehang, as one of China’s pioneering eVTOL manufacturers, has been making significant strides in the industry. The company recently announced the official guidance price for the EH216-S in China, highlighting its commitment to commercializing eVTOL technology.

The EH216-S is powered by a battery pack and boasts a maximum flight speed of 130 kilometers per hour with a flight duration of up to 25 minutes. In a groundbreaking achievement, the EH216-S equipped with solid-state batteries completed a successful uninterrupted flight test, lasting over 48 minutes.

Gotion, on the other hand, is a global leader in power battery manufacturing, with a notable market share in the first four months of the year. The company’s focus on innovation and cutting-edge technology has positioned it as a key player in the eVTOL battery sector.

Overall, the partnership between Gotion and Ehang signifies a significant milestone in the eVTOL industry, paving the way for enhanced performance, efficiency, and safety in eVTOL aircraft. With a shared vision for innovation and collaboration, both companies are set to drive the future of eVTOL technology forward.
