Nio Onvo L80 spotted in road tests, launch set for Q4

Onvo, a prominent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, is gearing up to launch its latest SUV models to cater to the growing demand in the market. The company’s flagship SUV, the L90, is set to be unveiled in the third quarter, while the recently leaked spy photos reveal a sneak peek at the upcoming L80 model.

The L80 is a spacious five-seat SUV designed to target the family car market. Built on Nio’s NT 3.0 platform, the vehicle showcases a smaller size compared to the L90, Onvo’s flagship SUV. Despite being heavily camouflaged in the spy photos, the design language of the L80 closely resembles that of the L90, with similar front and rear light configurations.

According to reports from Chinese automotive media outlet Auto Home, the L80 is expected to offer both single-motor and dual-motor options. The single-motor version may deliver a maximum power output of 340 kW, while the dual-motor version could reach 440 kW, matching the capabilities of the L90’s motors.

The anticipation for the L80 model was initially fueled by spy photos released earlier this year, sparking speculation about the new vehicle. However, subsequent information from Onvo clarified that the model in question was, in fact, the L90, which made its official debut at the 2025 Shanghai auto show in April.

Onvo’s expansion into the SUV market began with the launch of its first model, the L60, in September 2024. Positioned to target the mass market, the L60 offers a mid-to-high-end pricing range starting at RMB 206,900 ($28,790). With the upcoming releases of the L80 and L90, Onvo aims to achieve monthly sales of 25,000 units by the fourth quarter of this year.

Nio Inc, Onvo’s parent company, reported delivering 23,231 vehicles in May, including contributions from the Nio main brand, Onvo, and Firefly. As the electric vehicle market continues to expand rapidly, Onvo’s new SUV models are poised to make a significant impact and further solidify the company’s position in the industry.

Stay tuned for more updates on the official launch of the L80 and L90 SUV models from Onvo as they continue to innovate and expand their product offerings in the competitive electric vehicle market.
